Location: Advanced Massage Therapeutics, Louisville, KY
Instructor: Amber Davies, CMTPT, LMT
Course Description:
Elevate your skills with this four-and-a-half-day intensive class on the characteristics, locations, and palpation of trigger points. Gain the problem solving, clinical mastery, compassionate communication skills and self-treatment education that will set you apart.
In the Trigger Point Therapy — Whole Body Workshop, you will become a master of trigger point location. Just as it sounds, we will cover the entire body looking for trigger points that contribute to common complaints that you see every day in your practice.
End your pain with self-treatment. If you are like the thousands of therapists who have taken our classes in the past, you will find pain relief during the class. Practice and then teach your clients simple, effective self-treatment that can be done anytime, anywhere.
Make your own body a learning laboratory. This is how Amber and Clair learned trigger point therapy. When we began teaching self-treatment to therapists, we quickly learned that even very experience massage therapists were missing common trigger points on their clients.
If you can find a trigger point on yourself, you can find on someone else. It is all about body landmarks, soft tissue palpation, and direction of pressure. Using simple self-treatment tools, we will find the trigger point on ourselves first. This personal approach gives you three things: a lifelong educational laboratory, self-care, and compassion.
The problem is not in the place that hurts. Trigger points refer pain and create mechanical dysfunction that causes pain far from the site of the real problem.
Learn to spot referred pain and mechanical dysfunction patterns. Using trigger point charts and clinical assessment skills you will be able to evaluate specific problems and to understand the underlying dysfunction that keep trigger points coming back. Remember ‘the victims cry, the perpetrators don’t.’
Problem-solving massage. We will work to figure out the “why” behind the pain and dysfunction. Poor ergonomics, skeletal variations, habitual posture, unconscious habits, and repetitive use all feed chronic pain and dysfunction. Build your reputation by solving recurring problems that get your clients out of pain for good.
There are many ways to treat trigger points. We will explore several massage therapy techniques that work for different bodies. Press and hold does not work for everyone, and you do not have to continue to abuse your own body trying to force tissue to relax.
Therapeutically Delicious. Hands-on practice trades will be “therapeutically delicious” as your trade partner will practice direct verbal communication and observation to assess your personal response to treatment.
Appropriate, effective therapy can be as gentle as a feather-light touch to having your full body weight on your elbow as your treat someone’s back. Treat the individual.
Practice time is detailed, supervised, and memorable. This is trigger point therapy everyone will love.
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook 3rd edition is required for class (not included in tuition). Pre-order your copy now at Amazon. We will also have books available for sale before class but reading in advance really helps.
